2012 Powder Awards Movie of the Year: All.I.Can. 2012 Powder Awards Movie of the Year: All.I.Can. 2012 Powder Awards Movie of the Year: All.I.Can.
The most coveted Powder Award goes to the two-year film project All.I.Can. from Whistler-based Sherpas Cinema. Former winners of Best Documentary (The Fine Line), the Sherpas carried a compelling storyline throughout the film, featuring original time-lapse footage, powerful skiing, unique cinematographic shots, and several subliminal environmental messages. Known for their admitted unhealthy time-lapse obsession, co-directors Dave Mossop and Eric Crossland produced countless time-lapse sequences from fall to winter and winter to spring that not only capture the change of seasons, but also the transformation of our winter environments. The pacing and progression of the intro, featuring slow-mo shots of molten lava, clouds, and other scenics, was analogous to listening to a Zeppelin song, the excitement and suspense building with each frame. It's been well documented that the Sherpas, like most film companies today, used several different camera kits, including the RED cam, Super 16, Cineflex HD giro stabilized heli cam, Canon 7D and 5D, Phantom HD Gold slow-mo cam, and GoPro helmet cams. Skiers Kye Petersen and JP Auclair have standout segments. In turn, Petersen won Full Throttle and Best Natural Air for his hard-charging prowess down steep faces while Auclair won Best POV for one of the greatest segments in ski-film history, with his urban skiing, airing, and jibbing in the tiny, hilly town of Trail, British Columbia. Trips to Morocco, Chile, Greenland, Alaska, and, of ...

2012 POWDER AWARDS THE NORTH FACE BREAKTHROUGH PERFORMANCE: PARKER WHITE 2012 POWDER AWARDS THE NORTH FACE BREAKTHROUGH PERFORMANCE: PARKER WHITE 2012 POWDER AWARDS THE NORTH FACE BREAKTHROUGH PERFORMANCE: PARKER WHITE
The North Face Breakthrough Performance Parker White After Dark Level 1 Productions We knew he could ski park and urban, but who knew Parker White has such style in big mountains and deep powder? In Level 1 Productions' After Dark, the East Coast jibster sent a message that he is a force with his first-ever Powder Award. Like every one else who won this award, White is officially on the radar of ski film fans. Former Breakthrough winners Sean Pettit and Sage Cattabriga-Alosa both followed up their Breakthrough years with Best Male Performance awards. In fact, Ingrid Backstrom did, too, but she won Best Female Performance the same year that she won Breakthrough Performer. White proves he is in the same category with arguably the most versatile segment in ski cinematography in 2011-12. From rails, to park jumps, to mini-golf lines, and urban jibs, the enigmatic White is here to stay. For more info visit www.powderawards.com

2012 POWDER AWARDS BEST POWDER: TOBI REINDL, PADDY GRAHAM, THOMAS HLAWITSCHKA, AND SVEN KUEENLE 2012 POWDER AWARDS BEST POWDER: TOBI REINDL, PADDY GRAHAM, THOMAS HLAWITSCHKA, AND SVEN KUEENLE 2012 POWDER AWARDS BEST POWDER: TOBI REINDL, PADDY GRAHAM, THOMAS HLAWITSCHKA, AND SVEN KUEENLE
Best Powder Tobi Reindl, Paddy Graham, Thomas Hlawitschka, and Sven Kueenle Nothing Else Matters Legs of Steel The 2010-2011 winter was all-time. It snowed around 800 inches in Tahoe and Little Cottonwood Canyon and 558 inches at Jackson Hole. So there was plenty of snow to go around for a number of Best Powder nominees. Level 1 found bottomless nirvana in Japan, Powderwhores Noah Howell and Andy Jacobson came up with white beards in the film Breaking Trail, and practically every professional Canadian skier in the land made the cut in an extensive and all-embracing powder segment in All.I.Can. Despite those impressive clips, the winner of the Best Powder award went to the cast of Legs of Steel's Nothing Else Matters for having the most well-rounded segment. The Euros combined Level 1's playfulness with the gopher pow in All.I.Can. and tied it all together with a heavy metal soundtrack that makes the viewer want to book the next flight to St. Anton.

2012 POWDER AWARDS BEST MALE PERFORMANCE: SEAN PETTIT 2012 POWDER AWARDS BEST MALE PERFORMANCE: SEAN PETTIT 2012 POWDER AWARDS BEST MALE PERFORMANCE: SEAN PETTIT
Best Male Performance Sean Pettit Attack of La Niña MSP Films Who said a teenager can't be the best film skier in the world? Nineteen-year-old Sean Pettit disproves that presumption with his second Best Male Performance Powder Award. Once again, Pettit scored a long segment with MSP Films in their 2011 release, Attack of La Nina. The playful, fun segment included several big lines and mini-golf terrain, with tons of deep powder and huge natural airs and tricks. Pettit continues to amaze with his seemingly uncanny ability to play with terrain and land every big trick, whether it's forward or backward. He's a good little skier for a teenager. And he'll be around the Best Male Performance category for a long, long time. For more info visit www.powderawards.com
