Homemade Memristor
About ten years ago while walking up this mountain road, I noticed a lot of small gravel and the smell of sulfur. I also found some empty brass rifle cartridges in the gravel that had turned to a dark black color from corrosion. After returning home, I proceeded to investigate the electrical properties of the black crud on the cartridges. I layed a piece of aluminum on a cartridge and connected both of them to the curve tracer. This typical pattern was often produced when ac voltage was applied across the aluminum and cartridge. I recorded this in my notes as a curious memory phenomenon but didnt think much more about it until recently browsing the web and becoming aware of the memristor and the amount of attention it is getting. Since the device shown here seems to fit very closely, all of the descriptions Ive read about memristors, I decided that some might find this video interesting. The exact middle of the screen is zero voltage and current. Notice how the curve always passes through zero. This is one of the requirements to qualify as a memristor. Pieces of copper or lead that had been sitting in some powdered sulfur for a long time also acted as memristors. Placing a small pile of powdered sulfur on a piece of copper sheet for just a few hours produced a black area that worked well as a memristor when in contact with a piece of aluminum. The memristor is in series with pushbutton S1, an LED and enough voltage to light ...

Versace Bionetics 2010 4.avi
Brain-Inspired Computing Massimiliano Versace Department of Cognitive and Neural Systems, and Center of Excellence for Learning in Education, Science, and Technology, Boston University, Boston, MA 02215 Abstract At this point in time and in the foreseeable future, convergent advances in neural modeling, neuroinformatics, neuromorphic engineering, materials science, and computer science will enable the study and manufacturing of novel computer architectures. These new architectures are not only promising in helping overcome Moores law imminent failure, but will also open the door to large-scale neural modeling research and applications. This talk focuses on memristor-based bio-inspired computing devices and models scalable to biological levels. These devices, realized in the context of the DARPA sponsored SyNAPSE Systems of Neuromorphic Adaptive Plastic Scalable Electronics project, promise to advance our understanding of how simulated and robotic agents with whole-brain systems learn to interact with their environment, and to create innovative technological applications to impact general-purpose computing and mobile robotics. HP Collaborates with Hynix to Bring the Memristor to Market in Next-generation Memory
Interview with Stan Williams, HP Labs. Technology from HP Labs will enable quicker, more energy-efficient computing. more info at www.hp.com/go/datacentral The two companies will jointly develop new materials and process integration technology to transfer the memristor technology from research to commercial development in the form of Resistive Random Access Memory ReRAM. Hynix will implement the memristor technology in its research and development fab. ReRAM is non-volatile memory with low power consumption that holds the potential to replace Flash memory currently used in mobile phones and MP3 players. It also has the potential to serve as a universal storage medium -- that is, memory that can behave as Flash, DRAM or even a hard drive.

THE MEMRISTOR - INCREDIBLE
Mark my words, this will VASTLY change the world... The memristor is the fourth element in integrated circuitry. Scientists are discovering the mathematic equations used to govern memristors are similiar to those which govern synapses in the brain. In addition, memristors do not forget the voltage charge channeled through them. This will yeild several billion-fold times the capacity/performance than current hard drives. That, however, is just one of the multitude of products yet to utilize this incredible new discovery. posted 11/18/08
