We got super excited when we learned that the world's only PEZ museum was a mere half hour drive down the road. Justine Ezarik aka iJustine was in town, and it turns out that she's a huge PEZ fan and collector. Only Steve Jobs or a new Apple product launch could keep her away. iJustine and Irina pay a visit, take a tour and get the history of PEZ from Gary Doss, curator of the Burlingame PEZ Museum of Memorabilia.

Creative Lives & Careers: Art Ecologies Creative Lives & Careers: Art Ecologies Creative Lives & Careers: Art Ecologies
A discussion about the art communities in Houston, TX, Kansas City, MO and Portland, Oregon. Recorded Feb. 19, 2011 at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center. "Diane Barber, Co-Executive Director/Visual Arts Curator, DiverseWorks Art Space; Kristan Kennedy, Visual Art Curator, PICA; and Raechell Smith, Director/Curator, H&R Block Artspace, discuss the art communities of Houston, TX; Portland, OR; and Kansas City, MO. They will dialogue with ACAC’s Artist Director, Stuart Horodner—talking about the ways in which cities develop their creative class of artists, gallerists, collectors, and patrons. This panel follows on the heels of several ATL conversations about various artists and organizations getting to know each other and collaborating to make our city a more vital place. Barber and Smith were part of the jury that selected the recipients of the Artadia Grants in San Francisco in 2009, including artists included in the current ACAC exhibition Embodying (James Gobel, Allison Smith, and Richard T Walker)." thecontemporary.org

Demands Work Group at OWS Demands Work Group at OWS Demands Work Group at OWS
I had just asked the group as to why there is little interest or discussion for a demand for a higher federal minimum wage to a living wage (a living wage can start at the poverty line or just above...something around 14 per hour)...the curator for the "Jobs For All" preamble told me that wages were "already" included under the "unions" statement...which basically states that jobs within in public works should pay union wages. A little more specificity, please?

Open through February 18, 2012, free to the public, please call 323-466-2700 for details. See the new Eames Office website eamesdesigns.com where you can read an interview with a Herman Miller factory foreman explaining how Eames designs translates to JOBS. eamesdesigns.com Excerpt: "I asked a few people on the floor about who they thought Charles Eames was and what he meant to them. One person said to me that Charles Eames meant a job and security. He said that Charles Eames's designs are designs that last -- they aren't something that are designed for one period and after five years are not a good design any more. They seem to last forever. Another person also said that Charles Eames meant security and a job. [These people] have been working on Charles Eames's products all the time they have been here at Herman Miller and they're continuing to do that, which is a total of fifty years." Learn about two new Eames books, EAMES + VALASTRO: Design in the Life of an American Family, A Rough Sketch danielostroff.com www.amazon.com And the catalog for this exhibition, COLLECTING EAMES www.amazon.com The new website is enriched by 6000 photos donated by JF Chen.
