Simple, inexpensive car camping - Voluntary Simplicity
Okay, this isnt a portrayal of elegant car camping techniques Rather, its how Ive typically traveled around Mexico, Canada, and the United States since I started driving in the early 1970s. For me, the idea of car camping is to travel quickly, lightly, and cheaply with as little impact on the land and environment as possible. And, of course, my idea has always been to save money by only using a hotel or paid commercial site when absolutely necessary. A typical trip for me, when driving alone, is to drive about 1300 to 1400 kilometres about 850 miles per day with stops as needed for fuel, food, restroom breaks, photography, site visits, etc. Then, at sundown or well after sundown during the winter I look for a place where its legal to park and throw my sleeping bag on the ground. About the only time I use a tent is when the insects are a problem or I anticipate a lot of rain. Otherwise, I simply throw a bit of plastic over my sleeping bag and hunker down until sunrise. Oh, and I never, ever make a fire or burn anything other than my small white gas stove. And even that isnt used much since I dont normally eat breakfast or drink coffee or tea - even when Im at home My cars, too have always been fuel efficient and economical. In this video you can see my 1993 Toyota Tercel - it was almost 19 years old, at the time of this recording, with almost 275000 miles on it. If I had a bigger car Id probably save even more tim...

Composting fall leaves
I normally mix fall leaves in with the family composting bins in our backyard. In this video you can see the fancy little composting stir stick that I use to mix things up a bit. I usually have too many leaves for these small composting bins so I take the excess to Barbara Jane Millers house, in Boulder, for her goats to eat I have another video posted about that thats called Goat Leaf Recycling.
