Nonprofit CDFI Community Financial Resource Center (cfrcla.org) leads a committee meeting with St. John's Clinic, Pan American Bank, The RightWay Foundation and Magnolia Place to help Community members of the Magnolia Place neighborhood in South Los Angeles form a community yard sale cooperative. For two years Community Financial Resource Center (CFRC) has hosted a community yard sale and exchange at Magnolia Place. The event draws vendors (mostly women and latino) from the neighborhood and has received a strong following ever since its inception. The yard sales help bridge participants to community resources, strengthen social networks within the neighborhood as well as create a real source of income for most of the participating vendors. Without it, many would find it difficult to manage. With unemployment high and prospects for work even more dismal for a monolingual Spanish speaker, selling goods is cost effective and well worth the trouble.
