At the age of 17, I got my first huge break when I was asked to serve as the California High School State Coordinator for Students for Barack Obama. At 18, I was elected one of the youngest politicians in California serving as an assembly district delegate. At 20, I was appointed the Co-Chair of the United Nations Youth Committee of Australia and then promoted to the Executive Director of United Nations Academic Impact ASPIRE. And now at 21, I've started my own company that has grown to 11 staff and works with international organizations to increase their impact using social media. What was the secret to my success? It was being nice. This year the TedxUChicago theme is revolutions, and I want to talk about how the characteristics of being nice can create strong networks, motivate you and bring you new opportunities to become a better leader to make a difference. In the words of Conan O'Brien, "Work hard, be nice and amazing things will happen."

Feb. 8 (Bloomberg Law) -- Facebook, which filed an IPO last week to raise $5 billion, has no warehouses of inventory. Its inventory is supplied by its users -- their likes, dislikes and interests, which the social media giant can use to help advertisers target their messages. Law professor Lori Andrews tells Bloomberg Law's Josh Block that users need to be protected from that kind of aggregation of personal data. Andrews is a law professor at Chicago-Kent College of Law and the author of "I Know Who You Are and I Saw What You Did: Social Networks and the Death of Privacy."

This year, the Patriots and Giants took a new approach to Super Bowl marketing by turning to social media. The Giants hosted a "Social Media Night" where players hosted a live webcast from the team hotel, answering fan questions sent in on Twitter and Facebook. Some US officials are expected to get smartphones this year that are capable of handling classified government documents over cellular networks. The phones will run a modified version of Google's Android software. The Army has reportedly been testing touchscreen devices at US bases for nearly two years. Officials also looked at Apple smartphones but were told they could not tinker with the operating system.
