What kind of light system does the Hydroponics Community recommend I install into the Aquaponic Basics Food Factory. CFL / Fluorescent is what I am leaning towards, although if there where better reviews on LED, I want to go that route. I plan to combine a color spectrum of 6500 and 2700 Kelvin T5 bulbs in a balast system that will cover the 4 X 4 bottom grown area, unless you guys have better recommendations for doing otherwise. The HPS bulbs generate too much heat and are expensive to operate. LED systems are promising, but my research suggest that there are few reputable producers. But, these are inexpensive to operate and generate almost no heat. Additionally, it appears that plants in a vegetative cycle require 18 hours of light and 6 hours of dark. Whereas when it is time to flower the plants, 12 hours of light and dark is optimal. I am still researching what light is best for flowering/fruiting plants like cucumbers, bell peppers and tomatoes. Should these always be under a 2700 Kelvin bulb? Or should these plants be started under a 6500 Kelvin bulb for initial growth and later moved to the 2700 Bulb with the 12 hours of day and night light cycles? CFL. Also known as Florescent lighting.
