The Truth About Pests in My Garden
MAKE SURE TO SUBSCRIBE www.nicolachatham.com By boosting my plants immune systems, Ive found a balance where I no longer loose entire plants to pests hungry mouths. Instead the pests graze and help prune the plants, which keeps the plants growing back. If, however, I notice a garden bed is getting more than its fair share of catterpillars or grasshoppers, I take that as a very useful indicator showing the soil is deficient in nutrients in that bed. To fix it, I put handfuls of quality compost around the base of the plant, cover the compost back over with mulch , give the garden a dose of liquid organic fertilizer I make my own Its very simple cover weeds with water in a bucket, soak for a week or more - dilute about 1 part to 5 parts water in a watering can and pour the mixture on and finish the process off by scattering a handful of rock minerals over it all. Violia Its like a Berocca for plants... giving them back their bb-bounce. For many people it is an outlook on living using natures laws to grow their fruits, vegetables, and other plants naturally. This is usually a personal choice made in light of much research done into the importance of diet as it relates to our health and longevity. Studies have shown that organically grown foods have higher concentrations of vitamins and minerals then those grown using chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. 10 Vegetable Garden Update September 05 2011
My weekly update taken September 5th in our Southern Ontario Vegetable Garden Things are dying off but tomatoes are in harvest mode. Everything is a month behind. The butternut squash just started growing fruit last week. Watermelon is not growing in size. Cabbage is doing good. Green peppers are teenie tiny. Just a back yard Canadian vegetable gardener sharing garden experience, successes and failures. Some containers, grow bags and in ground. Working with a new camera so it was a little tricky. Plus the sun was bright and I could not see the view screen half the time. Sorry if my words are not clear enough. I am not used to talking to a camera when Im outside by myself...haha Learn how to control garden pests naturally Learn about tomato blossom end rot. This year I started everything from seed. Except for my beefsteak tomatoes. It was a late planting year due to wet weather. I am not sure what kind of harvest it will bring in. I am mostly experimenting this season. Tomatoes, green peppers, zucchini, cucumber, basil, sunflowers, peppermint, pole beans, bush beans, peas, butternut squash, leaf lettuce, butter crunch lettuce, celery root celeriac, watermelon, parsley, sunflowers I am learning a lot from watching the first video through to the last. I see how long it takes for things to really grow and ripen. Pest control is a MUST I do not have the harvest I hoped to have so far... Already planning on seed saving and doing thin...
