VersuS love vs turin, visualizing the realtime lives of cities www.artisopensource.net How do people express their emotions on social networks? Information has become ubiquitously accessible, thus transforming our perception of cities and of the ways we work, learn, communicate and relate to other people. VersuS analyzes the digital lives of cities to suggest a scenario in which digital and analog realities interweave and become one. By performing realtime content harvesting on social networks we are able to perform natural language analyses on the conversations running between users, to peek into their emotions, wishes, expectations and desires. We can make this information available and accessible using information visualizations, mobile applications and generative design artifacts, thus creating the tools which enable the creation of a new form of public space which merges the digital and analog lives of people, transforming them into active agents in a new idea of citizenship, enabling novel forms of expression and representation. In love VS turin, we focus on an emotional approach, visualizing the expressions of love and passion of the citizens of the city of Turin, in a realtime collective conversation. Video of a generative audio-visual performance. The real-time art-script generates new views and metamorphosis of the piano_d.FORM by using random algorithms. At the same time the script creates a sound composition using sampled original sounds of the original piano_d.Form. The computer-generated performance is based on an art-script of the media artist Brigitte Felician Siebrecht. The program creates an artificial, random impression, that plays with the dissolving of form. The sound composition works with tempo and tone variations. Fragmentary transparencies, a mix of different states of development - creating a kind of multi-perspective vision and reveals the visibility of the essence of form. Each generated view, each visual moment, every audio composition is unique and unrepeatable - due to the random structure of the script - the possibilities of change are nearly infinit. written by b.felician Siebrecht 2011

Les pixels montrent une attirance compulsive pour un vrai tableau carré noir fixé au mur , sans jamais toutefois pouvoir y pénétrer. La chorégraphie générative qui guide ces pixels est construite sur un langage de forces psychologiques et physiques. Par le contact des pixels de lumière contre la matière physique, et par la référence directe au Carré noir sur fond blanc de Kasi mir Malevitch, cette oeuvre témoigne des rapports entre lart programmé et lHistoire de lArt. Production Antoine Schmitt / In Pixel Noir, a moving shape composed of video-projected white pixels swarms over the surface of the wall. The pixels are compulsively drawn to a black square mounted on the wall, without ever being able to enter it. The generative choreography which guides these pixels is built on a language of psychological and physical forces. With its light pixels bumping up against physical matter and its direct reference to The Black Square by Kasimir Malevitch, this work is a testament to the relationship between programmed art shows and Art History. They go a defined distance, then rotate x degrees. One in 20 particles split, incrementing the value of x until 2000 particles exist, then they no longer split. The result of these simple rules is a complex, chaotic, but deterministic system.
