A time when people bought music and so international record companies in Turkey took risks and made money and beautiful art. The music giants employ the best composers, writers, choreographers and video makers. Those Multiantional Music Companies closed offices in Istanbul in 2001 due to copying and piracy, unfortunately. But, although those days of great Turkish Pop Music may have gone - We can still look back in awe at Turkish Music of the great 1990s with Rober Hatemo and his Harem here! ORCHESTRATION The main change to Turkish Music in the 1990s was the advent of 24 Multi-Track Studio Recorders. Here, suddenly, Turkish Music Directors had a tool that could solve the problem of weak TONE MASS [thickness of sound]. The MONODIC [melody and drums, no harmony or bass line] nature of Turkish Popular Music sounds thin as most instruments are playing the same tune and there is no real chord structure. The sound was thin. Being able to record on 24 tracks and rewind to the beginning and re-record the instruments again was a great solution to TONE MASS. Suddenly, the 12 Western Violins could be recorded on Track 01, say, then rewound, then the same violining recorded again on Track 02...Track 01 would be PANNED [channeled to one side of stereo field] to the left [12 violins] and Track 02 PANNED to the right [12 violins].
