Basque Folklore Dance Performance Orreaga by Itxasalde, Basque Country [Travel with Manfred]
The El Dia de la Virgen Assumption of Mary on August 15 is one of the biggest celebrations in Bakio. Throughout all the year more than 200 people - from kids to adults - prepare for this day. Weekly dance classes are held throughout the year. The evening gala celebration was held near the sports center and lasted 2 and a half hours. Some dances in the evening gala were from Navara, especially some carnival dances. People put on traditional clothes to celebrate the event. Every year the event celebrates a different topic. This year the theme of the evening was the battle of Roncesvalles fought in 778 and the title was Orreaga. In this battle the Basque were victorious of the army of Charlemagne. This performance is a dance and costume interpretation of this battle. Euskal Folklorearen Ikuskizuna. The dance group is Itxasalde or Grupo de Danzas Itxas-alde Dantza Taldea. The show was fantastic. For the first time Itxas Alde also integrated video components into their show and dances. Goazen - Dance Show
The show was created and choreographed by Pascale Lascano, and depicts 10 women Basque dancers who go and visit other countries and integrate their Basque dance into the folkloric dances of the countries they are visiting. The countries visited are Corsica, Turkey, Ossetia, India, Ecuador and the United States. The length of the show is one hour and the performers change costumes seven times on stage.

Dantzarien Jaia 2011 - Basque Country [Travel with Manfred]
Each year the villages and towns of the Busturias district of Biscay, Spain, get together for a Folklore Dance Festival. This year 25th annual meeting was celebrated Bakio. Officially the event is called Busturialdeko XXV. Dantzari Txikien Jaia or Dantzarien Jaia. The dancers from the various different villages - each one with its own traditional dresses and costumes - accompanied by music walk from the Fronton court to the indoor sports arena where the dances are performed. 9 groups with a total of more than 650 dancers demonstrated their skills. The 9 groups are Itxas-Alde Bakio, Alkartasuna Bermeo, Gazte Zar Mundaka, Irrintzi Alai Busturia, Urdaibai Forua, Elai-Alai Gernika, Artie Gautegiz-Arteaga, Lorea Ibarrangelu, Kabelinatxe Ere ño and Nabarniz and Artxube Ajangiz. Bizkaiko Dantzari Eguna 2011 Each year the province of Biscay in the Basque Country celebrated its local folk and traditional dances in its Bizkaiko Dantzari Eguna. This year, 2011, this Biscay Folk Dance Festival took place in Getxo, not far from Bilbao.
