A woodworker builds a carport toonport? for his wifes Godfrey Sweetwater pontoon boat. Watch the video closely to see the detailed demolition of the old shingle roof and trusses through the final construction project including painting. As you can see, the old roofing and 12x24 foot trusses were removed and new trusses and metal roofing installed. Treated posts and a 6x10 24 Rosboro XBeam glulam was installed to hold up the new 24x24 foot trusses. A cathedral ceiling was designed in the addition due to the height of the pontoon boat. Watch out for that metal roofing because the edges are sharp A little paint and we now have extended our garage space with an attached carport. Wife happy. Loft condensation Possible causes & remedies
Hi everyone, this isnt my usual video subject however I do feel its important a subject as the phenomenon is quite common in houses old and new especially as the outside temperatures have dropped and the heating goes on. Last winter 2009 I noticed water dripping onto the loft hatch and collecting on the underside of the roofing felt. After several visits by my insurer approved contractor, they seemed to think it was caused by too much junk and boxes etc in the loft that was affecting air flow across the eaves. This static air mass would then be mixed and warmed by warm moist air from the lower floors. After clearing out the loft the problem disappeared within a few days. However today I happened to look in the loft and condensation has returned - albeit greatly reduced. After careful research and trawling DIY, building and home improvement websites & forums, it seems my loft hatch is allowing warm air to pass up into the loft space. This seems to tie in with the condensation right above the loft hatch area but no where else in the loft. So Im now either going to replace the hatch with an up to date air-sealed fully insulated type as found on new builds & eco-homes or re-seal and fully insulate whats there. Screwfix and many other suppliers sell these units or the materials needed to improve insulation which incidentally should be 270mm thick between joists. Uni-Solar laminates DIY how to video from Smart Roof Systems
Here is a short blow by blow example of some DIY Uni-Solar enthusiasts installing a BIPV smart roof in Hawaii. First the gable flashing is tacked on, then the cut panel starter strip is slid under the flashing and the clips screwed on. First panel is cleaned with alcohol and the laminate is applied starting with the top foot then the laminate is rolled up from the bottom and the peel and stick plastic backing is pulled off while the laminate is rolled out into the standing seam roofing pan. There is a twenty year warranty when they are installed correctly on approved substrates. The laminate must be 100% bonded down to the Galvalume roofing pans which are flat as can be. They can also be applied to EPDM roofing membranes. There are 18 total and they will charge 8 L16 batteries 24 volt nominal with an Outback FX2524 and the Outback FM-80 charge controller with 80 amps and maximum power point tracking. The Uni-Solar laminates are wired in series strings of three each with 6 circuits landing on 8 amp breakers each in the combiner box. The MPPT charge controller is a modern device which allows wiring PV laminates at 72 volt nominal and down converting the voltage and up converting the amperage at the maximum power point. This gets you 15% more power into the batteries. Its like hitting a tennis ball in the sweet spot on the racket. The roof charges your batteries down below; such a beautiful and simple concept.
